The PovertyNeck Hillbillies released their debut Rust Records album on June 6, 2006. The album sold an impressive 5,919 units during the first week which in turn landed them a spot on the Top 75 Country Chart at #31. Rust Records is home to several country acts including BlackHawk, Shane Owens and Aaron Tippin (through a joint venture with Tippin's - Nippit Records). Though Rust Records is a fairly new independent label, they're sure to become a leading force in Nashville with the lineup of artists they have so far.
The PovertyNeck Hillbillies debut single "The Hillbilly Way" was definitely a good choice for radio, because after all, they are the "PovertyNeck Hillbillies." "One Night In New Orleans" and "She Rides Wild Horses" are two back to back tracks with the most potential. They could see the most success with either of these two songs. "She Rides Wild Horses" shows the best vocals from the band and the piano instrumentation is also beautiful.
This self-titled release from "The PovertyNeck Hillbillies" includes more up-tempos than ballads - showing off their hillbilly rock style. The song "Mr. Right Now" is one of those lighthearted fun songs that nobody really takes too seriously. The chorus goes like this: "I might not be Mr. Right, maybe we could have some fun tonight... I might not be Mr. Right, but I'm Mr. Right Now." "Mr. Right Now" is also the new single from the band. The style and vocals from the PovertyNeck Hillbillies are different... I'm sure there are many fans that enjoy this style, though I'm sure there are also some country music fans that don't know what to think of their music. Regardless, if you're looking for a fun hillbilly rock album, look no farther than the new album by the PovertyNeck Hillbillies. - Janelle Landauer
